Bus rapid transit service will begin on Jeffery Boulevard on Monday, the CTA said Thursday.
The service, the first of its kind in Chicago, will include painted bus-only lanes between 67th and 83rd Streets during rush hour. The bus service, called "Jeffery Jump," replaces the No. 14 Jeffery Express, which travels between Washington and Jefferson Streets and 103rd Street and Stony Island Avenue.
Bus stops are now spaced every half mile between 67th and 103rd Streets. A shelter at 71st Street and Jeffery Boulevard will display Bus Tracker information.
Next year, the route will see traffic signal priority for buses between 73rd and 84th Streets and a bypass lane at Jeffery and Anthony Avenue.
The CTA is looking to create similar service in the Loop and on Western and Ashland Avenues.
Riders of the No. 14 bus can see how their commute will change here.
