Witness blues of legendary status or rock on

concerts in dallas, tx

Linkin Park and Incubus may have made their claims to fame in the late 90?s, but both of these bands have been rockin? the rock/metal scene ever since (and in the process saving themselves from one-hit-wonder-dom). Mutemath, whose popularity spurned later in the early 2000?s, is headlining the show at Gexa Energy Pavillion August 27. B.B. King is such a legendary blues great I?m sure people assume he?s no longer living. Alive and well, you can go ahead and add him to (then cross him off) your ?see before I or they die? list, because this old cat at the tender age of 86 apparently still plays in about 100 shows a year (always with ?Lucille? right there with him, of course). Tedeschi Trucks Band opens for B.B. King Tuesday (August 28) at the Verizon Theater. In the singer/songwriter folk-ish category, The Tallest Man on Earth is opening for Strand of Oaks at the HOB Wednesday (August 29). This is one of those shows where the timing is just right for you to catch them before they really take off. Imagine if you were only so lucky with Mumford and Sons. Bob Schneider is back in town again (wasn?t he just here?) opening for Austin?s Wheeler Brothers and Fort Worth?s own Calhoun. Looks like Schneider is giving his music career a little rejuv-effort, glad to see Dallasites benefit. Show starts at 8 Friday (August 31) at the Granada. If you?ve never seen our resident crooner, Ricki Derek, or been to Fort Worth?s awesome jazz joint, Scat Jazz Lounge, then you are in luck! Hit two birds with one and see Ricki Derek at Scat. While the jazz scene in DFW isn?t quite the definition of cool that jazz was in earlier decades, Scat is one of those places that oozes the cool of 40?s jazz. The entrance to the club is half the fun. Go down the nice alleyway towards the neon sign, hit the down arrow on the elevator that opens up from the brick wall of the building, enter, and descend into another time.
