Give the staff of the Reader an assignment like "pick a bunch of bests our readers can go take advantage of," and you can pretty much count on it being done in its own strange way. There's no "Best New Restaurant," "Best Chef," "Best Hot Dog," etc. Names you might expect to see (Next, Do-Rite Donuts, whatever) go unmentioned entirely. Instead you get some bar and cocktail picks from Sula ("Best $40 Pour of Whiskey"), some decidedly un-Sula-like veganism ("Best Vegan Korean Buffet"), some neighborhood boosting ("Best Coffee Shop That is Nothing Like a Coffee Shop"), a few genuine finds ("Best Ethiopian Breakfast"). Comprehensive, hardly, full of fun stuff to find out about and argue with, certainly. The Food & Drink section starts here.
