The Olympics of fests

Get ready to dance: This weekend's street fests offer an array of music styles that should hit a high note with festival-goers across the city. Music will be the heartbeat of Rogers Park, with both Celebrate Clark Street and the Igbo-Fest kicking off on Saturday. Fiesta del Sol, Taste of Lincoln Avenue and Wicker Park Fest will continue the trend, bringing tunes to blocks across the city. Renee Pinckney is a RedEye intern.

Celebrate Clark Street

When: 1-11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Where: Clark Street between Morse and Touhy avenues in Rogers Park

Cost: $5 suggested donation

The agenda: Dubbed a "music street party," the seventh annual event will offer folk music and dance from around the world, providing a multicultural mix of music that's as diverse as the neighborhood.

Must-see musical act: SMOD, a band from Mali best known for its mixture of rap, hip hop, folk and traditional music, will make its first appearance in Chicago.


Igbo-Fest

When: 1:30-10 p.m. Saturday

Where: Warren Park in West Rogers Park

Cost: Free admission

The agenda: This annual one-day picnic organized by the Igbo Associations of Chicago aims to showcase the cultural heritage of the Igbo people of southeastern Nigeria. Expect traditional Igbo foods and music from Ike Adolphy & De-Meritables.

Bonus: Promised raffle prizes (tickets cost $1 a pop) include a 40-inch TV, laptop, camera and other goodies.


Fiesta del Sol

When: 5-10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday

Where: 1400 W. Cermak Ave. between Morgan Street and Ashland Avenue in Pilsen

Cost: Free admission

The agenda: This popular four-day fest celebrates its 40th anniversary this summer with live entertainment, local art and plenty to eat. In addition to traditional Mexican banda music, DJ sets and up-and-coming Latino artists will take the stage.

A chance to give back: Fundraising events such as a 5K walk/run and beauty pageant raise money for Pilsen community programming.

Taste of Lincoln Avenue

When: Noon-10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Where: Lincoln Avenue between Fullerton and Wrightwood avenues in Lincoln Park

Cost: $10 suggested donation

The agenda: Featuring nearly 40 musical acts on four stages, this outdoor street fest will showcase a bevy of pop, rock and blues talent. Headliners include San Diego rockers Augustana, Chicago blues guitarist Pistol Pete and local fan favorites Dot Dot Dot and 16 Candles.


Wicker Park Fest

When: noon-10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Where: Milwaukee Avenue between North Avenue and Paulina Street in Wicker Park

Cost: $5 suggested donation

The agenda: This popular street fest revolves around live music, with three stages offering something for everyone. Highlights include Cursive, the Budos Band, The Drums, Lucero, Joe Pug and many more.

Get artsy: Keep an eye out for works from two local arts organizations, Redmoon Theater and Defibrillator Gallery, which will be showcased at the newly added arts section.


Jeff Park Arts and Music Festival

When: 6-10:30 p.m. Friday, noon-10:30 p.m. Saturday, noon-9:30 p.m. Sunday

Where: 4822 N. Long in Jefferson Park

Cost: $5 before 5 p.m.; $7 after

The agenda: The long-running fest formerly known as Jeff Fest is bringing a full music lineup to the northwest neighborhood this year.�Snack on food from local�food trucks�such as Wagyu Wagon, Taquero Fusion, Duck N Roll and new frozen treats truck�Ice3. Bands range from Kevin Flynn & Avondale Ramblers on Friday to Smoking Popes on Sunday.
